MINT is proud to offer the AMI 6–12 Blended Diploma Course, a comprehensive exploration of Montessori education for elementary-aged children. This innovative format integrates online learning with limited in-person sessions in Dallas, Texas, creating a rich, immersive, and flexible learning experience. Participants engage in audio-video lectures, group discussions, hands-on activities, and personalized assignments, all designed to support professional growth and a deep understanding of Montessori principles.

  • Course Content

    The AMI 6–12 Diploma Course prepares students to support the intellectual, social, moral, and imaginative development of children during the elementary years. Course content integrates Montessori theory with extensive study and practice across the elementary curriculum.

    Students study:

    • Montessori theory, child development, and the characteristics of the second plane

    • Cosmic Education and the interconnected presentation of human culture and the natural world

    • Mathematics, including arithmetic, fractions, decimals, algebra, geometry, measurement, ratio, proportion, and other number systems

    • Language, including grammar, sentence analysis, writing, literature, and spoken language

    • History, human civilizations, timelines, and the development of human societies

    • Geography, earth science, physical science, and economic geography

    • Biology, including botany, zoology, ecology, human anatomy, and scientific classification

    • Music, visual art, movement, rhythm, storytelling, and creative expression

    • Elementary classroom organization, lesson planning, record keeping, parent education, and preparation of the learning environment

    • The presentation, construction, and use of Montessori materials

    • Observation, supervised practical work, practice teaching, and preparation for written and oral examinations

  • Synchronous online sessions take place on select Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Central Time through Zoom. Students also complete asynchronous coursework and assignments through Populi.

    Synchronous session dates: September 8, 15, 22, and 29; October 6 and 13; November 10, 17, and 24; December 1 and 8; and January 5.

  • Students attend eight days of in-person training at MINT in Dallas.

    • January 10 - 15: In-person training

    • January 16: No class

    • January 17 - 18: In-person training

    • Daily schedule: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • Students resume synchronous online sessions and asynchronous coursework following the January Dallas block. Most live sessions take place on select Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Central Time.

    Synchronous session dates: January 19 and 26; February 9, 16, and 23; March 8, 15, and 22; April 5, 12, and 19; and May 10, 13, 16, and 18.

    The May schedule includes the following exceptions:

    • Saturday, May 13: 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

    • Tuesday, May 16: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

    • Thursday, May 18: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

  • Students attend three consecutive weeks of in-person training at MINT in Dallas.

    • July 17 - 21

    • July 24 - 28

    • July 31 - August 4

    • Monday - Friday

    • Daily schedule: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • Synchronous online sessions take place on select Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Central Time. Students also complete asynchronous coursework and assignments through Populi.

    Synchronous session dates: September 6, 13, and 20; October 4, 11, 14, and 18; November 1, 8, 15, and 29; December 6; and January 10.

    The October schedule includes one exception:

    • Saturday, October 14: 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

  • Students return to MINT for seven days of in-person training.

    • January 15 - 19: In-person training

    • January 20 - 21: No class

    • January 22 - 23: In-person training

    • Daily schedule: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • The final online block combines synchronous sessions through Zoom with asynchronous coursework and assignments through Populi. Live sessions take place from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Central Time.

    Synchronous session dates: January 24 and 31; February 7, 14, and 28; March 7 and 14; and April 4 and 11.

  • Written examination review sessions take place online from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Central Time.

    • May 1 - 4: Written examination reviews

    • May 7: Paper A

    • May 8: Study day

    • May 9: Paper B1

    • May 10: Study day

    • May 11: Paper B2

    • May 14, 16, and 17: Oral examination reviews, two hours per session

    Written examination dates are subject to AMI approval.

  • The final in-person block includes coursework, supervised practical work, mock examinations, and preparation for the oral examinations.

    • July 23 - 27

    • July 30 - August 3

    • Monday - Friday

    • Daily schedule: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    • August 4 - 10: Proposed oral examination period

    • August 11: Proposed commencement

Course Schedule

Blended Format | Online and Onsite in Dallas, Texas

This blended AMI 6–12 Diploma Course runs from September 2027 through August 2029. The course combines online study with four in-person blocks at MINT in Dallas.

Online coursework takes place primarily on select Wednesday evenings from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Central Time, with a small number of scheduled Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday sessions. Students also complete asynchronous coursework and assignments through Populi.

In-person training is scheduled for January and July during each course year:

  • January 10 – 18, 2028

  • July 17 – August 4, 2028

  • January 15 – 23, 2029

  • July 9 – August 3, 2029

Written examination preparation and proposed written examinations take place in May 2029. Proposed oral examinations follow the final in-person block in August 2029, with commencement proposed for August 11, 2029. Examination and commencement dates are subject to AMI approval.

  • $15,000
    A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due within 10 days of acceptance.

  • $100 fee on or before March 1

    AMI Membership Fee: $297
    MACTE Fee: $250

  • Supplies for required material-making; cost varies. Consider a budget of $500 - $900.

Requirements

    • 90% Minimum Attendance of ALL Class Hours

    • Appropriate Preparation and Engagement in Course Activities and Discussions

    • 140 hours of supervised practicals

    • 99 hours of observation

    • 120 hours of practice teaching

    • Submission of acceptable and original Albums in all content areas

  • Many students receive employer sponsorships to fund their training at MINT. Our team is available to guide both applicants and schools through this process.

  • The Alumni Continuing Education Fund provides a partial tuition scholarship for returning MINT students on select courses.

Meet the Trainer

Virginia Viscovic, M.A.

Virginia Viscovic holds diplomas at both the AMI Primary and Elementary levels, is trained in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Levels I and II, and is a Montessori coach. She is a Consultant at the Elementary level for AMI/USA and also serves as a member of the Consultation Committee. Virginia holds a B.A. in Anthropology and an M.A. in Education/Child and Family Studies from SUNY Stony Brook in New York. She is both a national and external examiner for AMI and serves as the Elementary Director of Training at MINT.

Virginia brings a wide range of school experience from more than twenty-five years in the classroom, including corporate, private, and public school programs. While she has also served in school administration and on the boards of Montessori schools, Virginia is most passionate about supporting children and the adults who serve them, both in training and beyond.
