In order to serve the growing need for Montessori certified teachers at the early childhood education level throughout the world, MINT is proud to offer both a three-summer program and a new academic-year program leading to the internationally recognized diploma of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). Founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori, the AMI is the internationally recognized authority in Montessori education.
The Elementary Training Course prepares adults for the task of helping children aged 6 to 12 to develop the fullness of their individual human potential. The course provides an opportunity to study, in depth, Montessori pedagogy, practices and child development as well as an interdisciplinary approach to the study of human beings, their endeavours and relationship with the universe.

Course Components
- Offered as either a three-summer or academic-year course. The first academic year course will begin September 2012; and the next three-summer course will begin the Summer of 2014.
- Earn an internationally recognized AMI diploma for 6-12 years of age
- Montessori philosophy and practices of education with particular emphasis on the child aged 6 to 12 years
- Mathematics (arithmetic, geometry and algebra)
- Language, written and spoken, including functional aspects of grammar appropriate for children aged 6-12
- History and Prehistory
- Physical and Biological Sciences: understanding of the origins and development of the universe and of the human being's relationship to this development
- Presentations of physical and political geography designed to give an understanding of the interdependencies of the Earth and life upon it
- Supervised practice sessions with Montessori materials
- Observation in AMI classes and observation reports.
- Supervised practice teaching in AMI classes and practice teaching reports.
- Construction of hand-made classroom materials
- Preparation of albums containing illustrated notes of the Montessori methodology. These albums constitute the student’s basic teaching manuals.
- Preparation of written papers
- Written theory and written practical examinations and an oral examination.
- Reading Seminars on Montessori's books
What is the Foundation Course?
This intensive course is designed to give an overview of the Montessori Curriculum for children ages 3 to 6. This curriculum forms the base on which the work of the Elementary Course rests. It includes lectures on Montessori educational theory and practice along with supervised practice sessions with the materials. This course is a prerequisite for applicants who do not hold an AMI Primary Diploma for children 3 to 6+ years old, and will be given in the first summer prior to the commencement of the Elementary Course for the summer format and in August in preparation for the academic year course.
